Feeding Your Flock
1. What are some healthy ideas for feeding your family?
Breakfast:
Include a protein: Eggs, Turkey, Sausage
Oatmeal
Whole grain pancakes
Fruit bowl - have this available through the day for snacks
Lunch:
Leftovers from previous dinner
Keep it simple with sandwiches and fruit
Have the same thing each day for a week, then rotate to something new the following week
Keep it healthy with natural PB&J on whole grain bread
Snacks:
Fruit: oranges, apples, bananas, grapes, strawberries etc
cheese with whole grain crackers
Nuts
Carrot sticks, celery with natural peanut butter
Dinner:
Have theme nights:
Monday= Mexican (plan 4 different Mexican dishes to rotate each week)
Tuesday=Crockpot night
Wednesday=Italian (plan 4 different Italian dishes to rotate each week)
Thursday=Chicken (plan 4 different chicken dishes to rotate each week)
Friday=New recipe night (try something new!)
Menu Plan:
Plan your monthly menu based on the above dinner schedule to make shopping easy.
Organize items on your list by isle in your favorite grocery store to keep from forgetting items or buying extras.
Have older children help plan 1 day's menu, have them make grocery list, and help buy items from store.
2. Tips for nutrition and eating healthy:
Read labels! Things are not always as they are advertised
Eat as much "raw" food as you can, vegetables, fruit, salads
Use whole grains in your meals

Avoid MSG, hydrogenated oils, corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, margarine
Things to eat: raw, as close to the way its grown as possible, steam veggies, use frozen veggies instead of canned, have cut up fruit for desserts instead of sweets
